Turkey Run

For Father's Day I got Bobby a book of hikes within 60 miles of DC. On Saturday we went to a place called "Turkey Run" about 25 minutes away from our house in DC. We had a wonderful time.

My Review of Radical Womanhood

Hey, I'm famous now. Sorta...

The End of Marriage? and Al Moehler's Response

A friend recently posted this article from Newsweek on her Facebook. When I read the article, written by two women, all I could think was, 'Listen ladies - I am willingly not part of your supposed sisterhood.' Everything from their tone to the way they handle statistics to their not-so-humble statements about marriage and the home just hit me the wrong way.

Lucky for me, Al Moehler did a way better job articulating just what I felt. Read it here.

DeYoung-liners

I really like pastor and author Kevin DeYoung's work. Here is a link to a blog post by CJ Mahaney listing some good quotes from a recent talk DeYoung gave at the NEXT conference.

My two favorites:

'Those of you who have issues with the church, let me warn you that disillusionment can become an idol. You can easily find your identity in being jaded.'

'Our generation in particular is prone to radicalism without follow-through. We want to change the world and we have never changed a diaper.'

soap.com

Diapers.com is my very favorite website. I can get everything I need for Rose (mostly formula) at costs competitive to stores. Any order over $50 has free shipping, and the order comes in two days. Since we live on Capitol Hill, getting somewhere that's not a grocery store (and hence more expensive) for baby supplies takes about 15-20 minutes - a convoluted trip around town or a long trip into Virgina (the nearest Babies'R'Us is about 20 minutes away, nearest Target like 15-20). So, diapers.com is an awesome resource. They also knows how to get customers coming back - huge monthly discounts and sales (I got a $300 car seat for $170 - expensive still, but the best out there and will hopefully last a couple of kids) and lots of good offers.

So you can understand why I almost cheered aloud when I got an email in my inbox today. The founders of diapers.com are launching a new site in just a few weeks called soap.com - for all household products and needs. It will share a cart and account info with diapers.com, and have the same shipping schedule. This means I never have to go to Target again. It means one more fun afternoon on the Hill, and one less afternoon in the car with a baby who hates being in a warm car seat. Pretty stoked about it, that's for sure!

Air conditioning update: Our landlord is installing three window air conditioning units either tomorrow or Friday. Then, when the deal is closed and the new owner takes over the condo (July 1, Lord-willing) they will fix the central air system when we are in Louisville for Bobby's seminary class. So we're moving back to our place soon, and I will be able to finish unpacking. We're very happy about this!

Emily Takes Pictures of Rose

I know many of you have been waiting for more Rose pictures, so I am happy to oblige with these stellar shots by one of my best friends, Emily. I got to see her when we were in LA for my brother-in-law Jake's graduation. So fun!

Also, sorry for the lack of updates. The place we just moved into (right before two weeks of travel) is still boxed up. The air conditioner is also broken, and after sticking it out for two nights we've moved in with our pastor Mark and his wife Connie. Not sure when the air conditioner will be fixed...hopefully soon. So, I'll be trying to update more regularly but things around these parts are hectic.

For now, enjoy these beautiful shots.
